Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Isaac Asiamah will on Friday September 4, 2020, cut sod for construction work to begin at the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium which has been abandoned for over two decades.
This project forms part of the Government’s programme on Sports Infrastructure Development across the country. Already, 10 of such stadiums are nearing completion. He will be supported by leadership of National Sports Authority (NSA), Middle Belt Development Authority (MBDA), the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and the Traditional Area.
The renovation work at Nkawkaw will include the construction of a FIFA standard pitch, Olympic standard 8-lane athletic oval (tartan tracks), multipurpose courts, spectator stands, dressing rooms and offices and will be funded by the MBDA from Government’s $1m per constituency fund.
On 12th August 2020, The Director-General of the NSA, Prof. Peter Twumasi, joined the Chief Executive of the MBDA, Hon Joe Danquah, to carry out a technical assessment of the Nkawkaw Stadium to pave way for the sod-cutting of the project to renovate the stadium which has been abandoned over 20 years.
