The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed Mr Zakaria Abdulai to step aside from his position in the Juaben Constituency following allegations of sexual misconduct involving female students of Obuasi Senior High Technical School.
The directive, announced in a press release dated October 20, 2026, follows further consideration by the party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) after its earlier statement on the matter on October 19.
According to the party, the decision is intended to promote transparency and accountability and allow an unhindered investigation by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
The NDC, however, stressed that the directive does not amount to a determination of the merits of the allegations against Mr Abdulai, emphasising that he remains entitled to the presumption of innocence.
The party expressed confidence that the CID would conduct a thorough, fair and expeditious investigation, adding that its next steps would be guided by the outcome of the probe.
The Ashanti Regional Election Committee and the Juaben Constituency Election Committee have also been directed to take note of the decision and act accordingly.
