The Ministry of Education has expressed appreciation to three teacher unions for suspending their nationwide strike following negotiations with the government and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC).

The unions are the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG).

In a statement issued by its Press Secretary, Hashmin Mohammed, the Ministry described the decision as a positive step towards resolving outstanding concerns through dialogue, mutual understanding and constructive engagement.

It said the suspension would provide an opportunity for continued discussions aimed at addressing the issues raised by the unions while safeguarding the interests of teachers and learners.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to working with the unions, the FWSC and other relevant stakeholders to resolve outstanding matters, improve teachers’ welfare and ensure stability and continuity in the delivery of quality education.

It also commended teachers, parents, learners and other stakeholders for their patience and resilience during the industrial action.

The Ministry urged all parties to maintain cooperation and good faith to consolidate the progress made through negotiations.

It further reiterated its commitment to strengthening industrial harmony and creating an enabling environment where teachers are valued, supported and empowered to contribute to Ghana’s education transformation agenda.
