Ghana’s Black Queens began their 2028 Olympic Games qualification campaign on a strong note with a convincing 3-0 victory over Mauritius in the first leg of their qualifier at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex on Thursday, October 8, 2026.

The Black Queens made a fast start and took the lead in the 16th minute through Abigail Kim, who finished to give Ghana an early advantage.

Alice Kusi doubled Ghana’s lead eight minutes later, putting the visitors firmly in control of the contest.

Ghana continued to dominate as the first half progressed, and Benedicte Simon added a third goal deep into stoppage time with a long-range strike. The goal was Simon’s first for the Black Queens.

Ghana went into the break with a comfortable 3-0 advantage and maintained control after the restart as they searched for more goals.

Captain Jennifer Cudjoe came close to adding a fourth in the 78th minute, but her well-struck free-kick rattled the crossbar.

The Black Queens eventually settled for a three-goal victory, giving them a significant advantage ahead of the second leg on home soil.

Afi Amenyeku started in goal for Ghana, while Margaret Agyapomaa and Diana Amoako made their first starts for the senior national team.

The result leaves Ghana in a strong position to progress to the next stage of the 2028 Olympic Games qualification process.

The Black Queens will now prepare for the return fixture, where they will aim to complete the job and secure their place in the next round.
