Rev. Benjamin Boateng has cautioned that obstinate behaviour can undermine peace, communication and healthy relationships in both the home and the church.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s family, relationship and lifestyle programme, Nyansapo Fie, hosted by Akosua Gyamfua, Rev. Boateng described an obstinate person as someone who is difficult to deal with and unwilling to change their behaviour, even when doing so could help restore peace.
He stressed that the home plays an important role in shaping a person’s character, as children often learn from what they observe around them.
According to him, children who repeatedly witness negative behaviour between their parents may eventually adopt similar attitudes in their own relationships.
Rev. Boateng explained that obstinate behaviour can result in communication breakdown, resentment and unfairness within families. He added that an excessive desire to prove oneself right can also create divisions, including favouritism and tribalism.
He therefore advised parents to identify negative traits in their children early and correct them through proper training and guidance.
Using the example of a child who constantly demands things from siblings but refuses to share their own belongings, Rev. Boateng said parents must teach such children the importance of generosity, sharing and consideration for others.
Touching on the church, he cautioned Christians against over-spiritualising issues, particularly when some pastors present their personal opinions as messages from God.
He said such practices can create confusion and disrupt the proper order of the church.
Rev. Boateng also warned against the misinterpretation of persecution, saying it could lead some people to accept unhealthy attitudes or experiences as spiritual matters, thereby contributing to obstinate behaviour.
He called for greater understanding, proper guidance and responsible Christian leadership to help address behaviours that threaten peace in families and the church.
