Rev. Samuel Manful has urged people dealing with obstinate individuals to first understand the reasons behind their behaviour instead of rushing to condemn or judge them.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s family, relationship and lifestyle programme, Nyansapo Fie, hosted by Akosua Gyamfua, Rev. Manful described an obstinate person as someone who persistently refuses to change their behaviour or perception, even when their actions may have negative consequences.
He identified pride, insecurity and lack of maturity as some of the factors that may contribute to obstinate behaviour.
According to him, there may also be a spiritual dimension in some cases, making it important for people to investigate and understand the underlying cause before deciding how best to respond.
Rev. Manful advised people dealing with obstinate individuals at home, school or in church to listen to them and make an effort to understand what may be influencing their behaviour.
He particularly cautioned Christians against condemning or publicly embarrassing such individuals.
Instead, he recommended private and peaceful conversations, saying the individual should be helped to understand why their actions may be wrong rather than being subjected to immediate punishment.
Rev. Manful also encouraged Christians to pray for people who persistently display obstinate behaviour, especially in situations where there may be a spiritual concern.
He stressed that Christians should allow the Holy Spirit to guide them in dealing with such individuals and in determining the appropriate approach to help them change.
