Former media personality Oheneba Akua Manfo, popularly known as Blakofe, has accused former President Akufo-Addo’s appointees of using public office to enrich themselves after the court confirmed properties belonging to former NPA boss Mustapha Hamid.
Blakofe, who served under the Akufo-Addo administration, said the development reinforced her belief that some officials entered government with the intention of benefiting personally rather than serving the country.
“They came to steal. These guys could have stolen small and done something for country. Instead, they chose to sort themselves out. Akufo-Addo & all his appointees are a big disappointment,” she said on social media.
Blakofe, however, singled herself out from the criticism, saying she resigned from government because she refused to participate in what she described as “chopping”.
“Except me & Akwesi. I chose not to chop by resigning. Akwesi worked to grow the return home agenda. We have not heard about him chopping,” she said.
She also pushed back against attempts to dismiss her criticism as personal hatred for Akufo-Addo or as a result of bitterness or other personal issues.
“No fool should bring themselves with any silly comments that I hate Akufo-Addo or that I’m crazy, bipolar, junkie, bitter,” she said.
According to Blakofe, choosing integrity over personal gain has made her more respected outside Ghana, while she believes the opposite is often the case at home.
“Outside Gh, choosing integrity over chopping makes me valuable, a great asset. In Gh, it makes me ‘untrustworthy’, ‘not smart’, & to be avoided!” she said.
She went on to criticise the country’s political culture, arguing that corruption is often tolerated while people who demand accountability are attacked.
“Crazy, smelly, filthy country where the corrupt are glorified and elevated above the non-corrupt. Make it make sense,” she added.
Blakofe also anticipated criticism from political supporters over her comments, saying she expected party footsoldiers to attack her for speaking against the conduct of former government officials.
