The Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly has cleared an emerging unauthorised market at the Tetteh Quashie Roundabout near Villaggio in Accra.
The exercise, carried out on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, forms part of efforts to improve public safety, ease traffic congestion and maintain sanitation and order within the municipality.
Municipal Chief Executive for Ayawaso West, Michael Mensah, said the Assembly took immediate action after trading activities began emerging at the busy roundabout.
According to him, the intervention was necessary to protect public spaces and prevent activities that could compromise the safety and smooth movement of motorists and pedestrians.
“The Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly has taken immediate action to clear the emerging unauthorized market at the Tetteh Quashie Roundabout,” Mr Mensah said.
He explained that the operation was “aimed at protecting public safety, easing traffic flow, and maintaining sanitation and order within the Municipality.”
The Tetteh Quashie Roundabout is a major transport corridor linking several parts of Accra, including the Tetteh Quashie Interchange and surrounding communities.
The Assembly has therefore appealed to traders and residents in the area to cooperate with its efforts to keep public spaces free from unauthorised commercial activities.
“We urge traders and residents to cooperate with the Assembly as we work to keep Ayawaso West clean, safe and orderly,” Mr Mensah said.
The latest exercise comes months after the demolition of the Tetteh Quarshie Art Market and adjoining businesses in the area, an exercise that generated concerns among affected traders.
The Assembly’s latest action signals its continued enforcement against unauthorised trading and activities on public spaces, particularly around major roads and intersections where such activities could contribute to congestion, sanitation challenges and safety risks.
