Rev. Michael Banson of Holy Fire Revival Ministries has advised employers and employees to understand the reasons behind obstinate behaviour before labelling a person as difficult or unwilling to cooperate at the workplace.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s family, relationship and lifestyle show, Nyansapo Fie, hosted by Akosua Gyamfua, Rev. Michael Banson described an obstinate person as someone who refuses to listen to advice, accept corrections or consider an issue from another perspective, even when presented with evidence.
He cautioned that not every manager who refuses to change a decision should be considered obstinate, explaining that some decisions may be made professionally or in the interest of the organisation. He therefore urged workers to first investigate the reasons behind a person’s actions before describing them as obstinate.
According to him, obstinate behaviour at the workplace can affect productivity because such individuals may refuse to cooperate, delay decision-making, become argumentative and be reluctant to communicate with others.
Rev. Michael Banson advised managers dealing with obstinate workers to put their emotions aside, listen to the person’s reasons and explain clearly why an instruction has been given. He also encouraged employers to make their expectations clear and document instances where workers fail to follow reasonable instructions. He stressed that managing such situations requires patience.
