Social activist Lydia Ampiah Hayford has called for greater discipline, responsible communication and respect for democratic principles among political actors in Ghana.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s EBAANOSEN, hosted by Ohene Kinnah, she stressed that democracy requires discipline and adherence to established rules, particularly among political parties and their supporters.
According to Lydia Ampiah Hayford, political actors, especially those in opposition, must be mindful of how they communicate and conduct themselves, as their actions and statements can have a significant impact on the country’s democratic development.
She emphasised that effective and responsible communication is essential to maintaining a healthy political environment and promoting constructive engagement among political actors.
Lydia Ampiah Hayford further urged political parties to avoid actions and statements that could undermine democratic values, arguing instead for stronger structures that promote discipline, accountability and mutual respect.
She said Ghana’s democracy can only continue to develop when political actors recognise their responsibilities and operate within the principles and practices that sustain democratic governance.
She therefore called on political parties and their supporters to prioritise responsible conduct and constructive political discourse in the interest of strengthening Ghana’s democratic institutions.
