New Patriotic Party (NPP) communication team member Richard Anning has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of undermining democratic principles and deliberately seeking to weaken the opposition party.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s EBAANOSEN, hosted by Ohene Kinnah, Mr Anning defended the NPP’s internal democratic processes, saying the party gives its members opportunities to serve regardless of their educational background.
According to him, individuals elected or appointed to various positions within the NPP undergo the necessary vetting processes and are selected based on their commitment, capabilities and willingness to contribute to the party’s development.
Mr Anning argued that the NPP’s democratic structure allows ordinary members to rise through the ranks and contribute meaningfully to the party.
He also accused President John Mahama and the NDC government of creating what he described as an increasingly hostile democratic environment, contrasting it with the political environment under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Mr Anning described President Mahama as a hypocrite and alleged that his administration has discontinued or reversed several initiatives introduced by the previous NPP government.
He cited the use of drones to deliver essential medicines and healthcare supplies to communities with limited access to health facilities as one of the initiatives he believes benefited Ghanaians but has since been discontinued.
The NPP communicator further alleged that the NDC is threatened by the political potential of Kwadwo Bamba and is therefore attempting to undermine him.
He maintained that the NPP remains committed to democratic principles and will continue to provide opportunities for its members to participate in the party’s affairs and contribute to its growth.
Mr Anning urged NPP members to remain committed to the party’s democratic values despite what he described as attempts to weaken the party and restrict the participation of its members.
