Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) officer, DO I Michael A.K. Korsah, says the Service’s digital fire compliance system will improve transparency, reduce delays and make the process of obtaining fire certificates more efficient.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s Nkosuonsem, hosted by Obidehyie Kofi Sekyi, DO I Korsah said the digital platform would provide a clearer application process and help reduce challenges associated with the involvement of middlemen.
He explained that applications could be tracked through the system, making it easier to identify who is responsible for a particular application and monitor its progress.
According to him, the system is also expected to improve the turnaround time for applications while providing greater transparency for individuals and businesses seeking fire permits and certificates.
DO I Korsah said the Fire Service is further working to improve the quality and security of certificates issued to applicants.
He explained that the certificates would be incorporated into a more secure system to prevent misuse and allow genuine certificates to be properly verified.
He noted that the digital transformation goes beyond the issuance of certificates, as the Service is also strengthening its technical capacity through training and the use of modern equipment.
Among the equipment being deployed are thermal imaging devices, which he said can help identify potential fire hazards that may not be easily detected during conventional inspections.
DO I Michael A.K. Korsah also highlighted the importance of fire safety standards, including the proper use and placement of fire extinguishers, electrical systems and other preventive measures.
He said the digital system would support better monitoring and follow-up to ensure that required safety measures are maintained.
According to him, the ultimate objective is to improve fire safety, strengthen surveillance and ensure that appropriate fire-prevention measures are put in place before incidents occur.
He stressed that the digitalisation of the Ghana National Fire Service is intended to make the entire fire compliance process more effective, transparent and responsive.
