The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West in the Ashanti Region, Abubakar Sedik, has died.
He reportedly passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2026, shortly after returning to the district capital, Mankranso, from a meeting in Kumasi.
The meeting brought together Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and was attended by the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, and the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene.
According to reports, Mr Sedik complained of bodily pains after returning to Mankranso and was subsequently taken to a hospital, where he died.
Abubakar Sedik was appointed DCE for Ahafo Ano South West in 2025. He previously served as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the constituency in the 2024 general election.
His death comes as a shock to the district and the wider NDC community.
