CHRAJ investigator warns against destructive cycle of revenge

CHRAJ Investigator warns: Your actions today could become tomorrow’s regret
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A CHRAJ Investigator, Isabella, has cautioned the public against seeking revenge, warning that personal retaliation can escalate conflicts, destroy relationships and, in some cases, lead to criminal acts with serious consequences.

Speaking on Nyansapo Fie, Plan B FM’s family, relationship and lifestyle programme hosted by Akosua Gyamfua, Isabella said revenge is often mistaken for justice, but usually involves deliberately inflicting pain on someone in response to a perceived wrong.

She explained that revenge often begins with broken trust, particularly in relationships and marriages, where betrayal can leave individuals feeling hurt, angry and vulnerable.

According to her, instead of seeking healthy ways to address the situation, some people become focused on getting even, turning what may have started as a personal disagreement into a prolonged conflict.

Isabella noted that the consequences of revenge can extend beyond the individuals directly involved, particularly when anger and emotions cause people to disregard the law.

She warned that what may initially appear to be a simple attempt to hurt a partner, friend or rival can escalate into criminal conduct, potentially resulting in legal action and long-term consequences for those involved.

The CHRAJ Investigator further explained that repeated acts of retaliation can place additional pressure on public institutions, including the police, courts and correctional facilities, as personal disputes develop into cases requiring state intervention.

She stressed that society also bears the cost when individuals resort to vengeance instead of lawful and peaceful means of resolving disputes.

Isabella therefore encouraged people who feel wronged to seek constructive ways of addressing their grievances rather than allowing anger and resentment to drive their actions.

She said revenge may provide temporary emotional satisfaction, but it does not necessarily resolve the underlying problem and can instead create further pain and consequences.

The CHRAJ Investigator urged the public to break the cycle of retaliation by choosing dialogue, lawful avenues and peaceful conflict resolution, stressing that preventing further harm is essential to maintaining healthy relationships and social order.
