President John Dramani Mahama has directed the formation of an inter-agency task force to develop a detailed roadmap aimed at preventing the trafficking of narcotic drugs through Ghana’s borders.
The directive follows an urgent meeting chaired by President Mahama on Thursday, September 17, 2026, with the country’s security chiefs, where he received a detailed briefing on investigations into recent drug trafficking cases involving Ghana’s ports.
According to a statement signed by the President’s Spokesperson and Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, 10 individuals, including four officers of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), are currently being held as investigations continue.
The meeting also reviewed the existing structure and security systems at the country’s ports and considered additional measures to strengthen efforts against narcotic trafficking.
President Mahama subsequently directed the inter-agency task force to present a comprehensive roadmap based on the outcome of the meeting.
The roadmap is expected to outline measures to prevent the trafficking of drugs through Ghana’s borders and is to be submitted within two weeks.
The latest development comes as investigations continue into recent narcotic trafficking cases at Ghana’s ports, with authorities reviewing security systems and procedures to identify gaps and strengthen border controls.
