According to the Ghana National Fire Service, the Mankessim Fire Station received a distress call at 10:30 pm reporting the incident.

A rescue team arrived at the scene at 10:59 p.m. and found four persons; one female and three males, trapped in the mangled Toyota Vitz.
The crew extricated the victims, but they were confirmed dead by personnel of the National Ambulance Service who were also at the scene.
The bodies were subsequently handed over to the Ghana Police Service.
All four occupants of the Toyota Vitz died on the spot, while six occupants of the DAF bus sustained minor injuries.
According to the Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service,DOIII Abdul Wasiu Hudu, preliminary information gathered from one of the DAF bus passengers indicates that the bus was returning from Ivory Coast to Nigeria when it crashed into the Toyota Vitz, which was travelling towards Cape Coast.
Meanwhile, the cause of the accident is not yet known. The fire crew also cleared debris from the roadway to ensure free flow of traffic.
