Head coach of Ghana’s National Women’s Under-20 Football Team, the Black Princesses, Charles Sampson, has praised his players for their character and determination after securing an important 3-1 victory over South Korea at the 2026 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
The Black Princesses bounced back from their 3-0 defeat to Ecuador in their opening Group game with an impressive performance against South Korea on Wednesday, September 9.
Sarah Nyarko, Ivy Osei Owusu and Ruth Amponsah scored in the second half to hand Ghana all three points and revive their hopes of progressing to the next stage of the competition.
Speaking after the match, Charles Sampson said his players demonstrated the character, enthusiasm and passion expected of them.
“Today, the team actually really showed up. They showed up with the character that we know they have in the team. They exhibited it exactly how it should be, with a lot of enthusiasm and passion.”
Sampson says the team will now turn its attention to their final group game against France, with qualification firmly in their sights.
“We are approaching the France game to get the points that are needed to go further in the competition; that’s our aim,” Sampson said.
Ghana will face France on Saturday, September 12, in their final Group game. France have two points after drawing both of their opening matches.
Black Princesses captain Sarah Nyarko was named Woman of the Match after an outstanding display in Ghana’s victory over South Korea.
