The Bank of Ghana (BoG) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have cautioned the public against a fraudulent crypto investment platform known as “Daily Wealth Guide.”
The warning follows the circulation of a doctored video on social media, purportedly showing President John Dramani Mahama endorsing the investment platform and encouraging Ghanaians to invest.
In a notice dated September 1, 2026, the two regulators said the video and investment offer are part of a scam designed to lure unsuspecting members of the public into depositing their funds.
The Bank of Ghana said it has not licensed any individual or entity to engage in crypto investment, warning that persons or entities involved in such activities are operating illegally.
According to the regulators, soliciting funds from the public through the scheme amounts to deposit-taking, an activity that can only be undertaken by institutions licensed by the Bank of Ghana under the Banks and Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions Act, 2016 (Act 930).
The BoG and SEC further warned that individuals or entities found to be engaging in the illegal activity could be required to refund funds received and face administrative penalties ranging from 500 to 100,000 penalty units under the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044).
They may also be referred to law enforcement agencies for investigation and prosecution.
The regulators have therefore urged the public to verify the licensing status of any individual or entity before depositing money with them and to place funds only with institutions licensed by the appropriate authorities.
The Bank of Ghana has also directed media houses, including radio, television and online platforms, not to advertise the purported “foreign investors” or their products and services without first verifying their licensing status.
The public has been encouraged to report suspected illegal investment activities to the Bank of Ghana through its Financial Stability Department.
The regulators stressed that they will not hesitate to seek the assistance of law enforcement agencies to arrest and prosecute persons found culpable.
The Bank of Ghana is therefore urging the public to be vigilant and not fall victim to the “Daily Wealth Guide” investment scam.
