The Ghana Education Service (GES) has clarified that teachers who have recently been promoted to new ranks will have their salaries automatically adjusted to reflect their new positions.
The clarification follows concerns from some newly promoted teachers who said they had been directed to submit application letters, promotion letters and other supporting documents to facilitate salary adjustments.
In a statement dated August 22, 2026, the GES said teachers promoted to new ranks are normally placed automatically on the appropriate salary scale corresponding to their new ranks.
Management stressed that this existing practice has not changed, and therefore, newly promoted teachers are not required to submit any documents for salary adjustments.
The Service has consequently urged affected teachers to ignore any request to submit application letters or other documents for the purpose of adjusting their salaries.
GES said it is engaging the few regions and districts that are allegedly requesting such documents and called on teachers to remain calm while the matter is addressed.
The clarification is expected to ease concerns among newly promoted teachers, particularly amid reports of uncertainty over the process for placing successful candidates on their appropriate salary scales.
