The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has announced a planned interruption of power supply in parts of the Greater Accra Region as it undertakes the next phase of tower replacement works on the Ashaiman section of the 161kV Tema-Achimota transmission line.
According to GRIDCo, the affected tower was damaged following a tanker explosion in the area, necessitating urgent works to restore the integrity and safety of the transmission line.
The next phase of the replacement exercise is scheduled for Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
GRIDCo said its engineers and technical teams will use the period to safely undertake the remaining works required to complete the tower replacement.
To facilitate the exercise and ensure the safety of workers and the general public, power supply to some locations in the Greater Accra Region will be interrupted during the stated period.
GRIDCo said it is collaborating with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to mitigate the impact of the planned interruption on customers and communities in the affected areas.
The company has apologised for the inconvenience the exercise may cause and appealed to the public for patience, understanding and cooperation as it works to complete the critical transmission infrastructure repairs.
The tower replacement forms part of GRIDCo’s efforts to restore the affected section of the transmission network following the damage caused by the tanker explosion.
