The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised members of the Tijjaniya Muslim Movement of Ghana travelling to Senegal for pilgrimage to exercise heightened caution when making their travel arrangements.

In a travel advisory issued on Friday, August 21, 2026, the Ministry said Senegal remains safe for travellers but expressed concerns about security situations along certain road corridors leading to Dakar, particularly for those undertaking long-distance journeys by road.

The Ministry has therefore urged prospective pilgrims and other travellers to consider air travel as the preferred and safer means of transportation.

Those who have already made arrangements to travel to Senegal by road have been strongly encouraged to reconsider their plans and opt for air travel instead.

The Ministry stressed that the advisory is aimed at protecting the safety and security of Ghanaian pilgrims, urging them to take the reported security concerns seriously and make appropriate travel arrangements.

It further assured the public that it remains committed to the welfare, safety and protection of Ghanaian nationals abroad and will continue to monitor the situation in collaboration with relevant international partners.

The advisory comes as members of the Tijjaniya Muslim Movement prepare to embark on their pilgrimage to Senegal.
