The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has cautioned transport unions, station executives and drivers against charging unapproved transport fares within the Kumasi Metropolis.
The Assembly says it has received reports of some transport operators charging fares above the approved rates, describing the practice as illegal and unacceptable.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 17, 2026, the KMA directed transport unions, particularly station executives and drivers, to immediately desist from charging unapproved fares.
The Assembly has also announced plans to deploy an enforcement taskforce to various transport unions and stations to ensure compliance with approved fares and transport regulations.
According to the KMA, transport operating permits issued to unions by the Assembly could be revoked immediately if they are found to be charging unapproved fares.
The Assembly has therefore urged transport executives at both regional and branch levels to ensure that station officers and drivers comply with the directive.
The KMA particularly identified station officers and drivers as the main culprits in the charging of unapproved transport fares.
The Assembly has urged the public and transport operators who require further information on the directive to contact the Head of the KMA Transport Department, Mr. Randy Wilson.
