Traders and other occupants on portions of the Agbogbloshie area earmarked for the construction of a 24-Hour Economy Market have been given until August 28, 2026, to vacate the site.
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) says the one-month notice follows consultations with traditional authorities, market leaders, traders and other stakeholders on the planned redevelopment of the area.
The affected locations include the Agbogbloshie Cargo Station, Nzema Market and portions of the Yam Market.
According to the Assembly, persons affected by the exercise will not be left without an alternative trading space. A parcel of land has been prepared specifically to accommodate the displaced traders and commercial operators.
The AMA formally served the notice on Tuesday while marking structures within the designated areas for removal.
Before the clearance begins, the Assembly is scheduled to intensify public education and sensitisation activities to explain the redevelopment project, its expected benefits, the clearance process and relocation arrangements.
The exercise is part of preparations for the construction of the 24-Hour Economy Market, with the AMA urging affected occupants to take note of the deadline and make the necessary arrangements before the August 28 expiration.
