The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a robbery syndicate in connection with a violent gold robbery at Wassa Akropong in the Tarkwa area.
According to the Police, the robbery occurred on the night of March 11, 2026, when a gold dealer, Oris Oduro, was attacked while returning home after closing his gold-buying business at Tamakloe. He had hired an Okada rider for the journey when armed men reportedly ambushed them and robbed them at gunpoint.
The suspects allegedly made away with GH¢24,000 in cash, seven pounds and six matches of gold valued at GH¢94,530, an iPhone XR, and a Tecno Spark 12 mobile phone.
Following months of investigations, intelligence-led operations conducted at Duaso and Domeabra on July 21 and 22, 2026, led to the arrest of four suspects identified as Kwabena Amuah, 25, alias IK; Mohammed Nasir, 28, alias Mallam; Samuel Agyei, 24, alias Okese-1; and Kofi Gyasi, 26, alias Brefo.
The suspects were arraigned before the Wassa Akropong District Court on July 23, 2026, where they were remanded into police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
Police say efforts are underway to arrest another suspect, identified only as Agogo, who remains at large. The Command has appealed to the public to provide credible information that could lead to his arrest.
The Western Central Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring all persons involved in criminal activities are brought to justice.
