The Court of Appeal has acquitted and discharged former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, overturning her earlier conviction and 10-year prison sentence.
The appellate court ruled that the prosecution failed to prove the charges against her beyond reasonable doubt, leading to the reversal of the previous judgment.
Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu’s legal team had challenged both the validity of the charges and the sufficiency of the evidence presented during the trial, arguing that the prosecution’s case did not support the convictions.
After reviewing the case, the Court of Appeal agreed with the defence and set aside the earlier judgment, clearing the former MASLOC CEO of all the offences for which she had previously been convicted.
The decision brings an end to the appeal in a case that had attracted significant public attention following her conviction and sentencing.
