Ghana’s medal campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games is officially underway after para athlete Zinabu Issah claimed the country’s first podium finish with a silver medal in the women’s Shot Put F57 event.
The 31-year-old produced a season-best throw of 8.65 metres in the final to secure second place and hand Team Ghana its opening medal of the Games in Glasgow.
Issah’s latest achievement adds to her growing reputation on the international stage. At the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, she qualified for the women’s Shot Put F57 final with an 8.67m throw before improving to 8.84m in the final to finish ninth overall. She also represented Ghana in the women’s Discus F57, placing 12th with a best effort of 23.85m.
Her silver medal provides an early lift for Team Ghana, which still has athletes set to compete in athletics, boxing and swimming as the Commonwealth Games continue.
