The Upper West Regional Police Command has secured the conviction of a 47-year-old man, Kwame Ti-Zaaekuu, who has been sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for incest by the Lawra Circuit Court.
The convict was also handed a 10-year prison sentence for threat of death, with both sentences to run concurrently.
According to a police statement, investigations by the Lawra District Police established that the convict had repeatedly sexually abused his 17-year-old biological daughter, a Junior High School student, over an extended period. Police said he also threatened to kill her if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.
Following a full trial on Friday, July 24, 2026, the Lawra Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Stanley Adjei, found the accused guilty of incest and threat of death.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the court directed the Department of Social Welfare in Lawra to provide counselling and psychosocial support to the survivor.
The Upper West Regional Police Command commended the investigators and prosecutor for their professionalism, which led to the successful prosecution and conviction of the offender.
The Command also urged the public to report all cases of sexual and domestic abuse promptly to the police to enable swift investigation and appropriate legal action.
