The Bono East Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with a robbery incident on the Portor-Gurumpe Highway and recovered the GH¢300,000 allegedly stolen from victims.
According to the Police, the incident occurred on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at about 8:30 pm, when personnel stationed at the Portor Police Barrier under the Kintampo Police Division received intelligence that a robbery was ongoing a few metres away from the barrier.
A team of officers was immediately dispatched to the scene, where four suspects reportedly fled into a nearby bush. The Police managed to arrest Abdul Sadat Ali, 24, the driver of a Toyota Voxy with registration number AS 1541-25.
During preliminary investigations, Abdul Sadat mentioned Samad Issahaka, 24, driver of a Kia Rhino truck with registration number AS 7337-23, as one of the alleged members of the robbery gang. Police subsequently arrested him.
Investigations revealed that the owner of the Kia Rhino, Yahaya Seidu, 35, had instructed his driver to travel to Buipe to purchase cattle. Police said the driver, who was aware that his employer was carrying money, allegedly conspired with five others to rob them on the highway.
The suspects, armed with a toy pistol, reportedly trailed the Kia Rhino from Offinso in the Ashanti Region, caught up with it after the Portor Police Barrier, and robbed the occupants of GH¢300,000 in cash.
The Police Counter Terrorism Unit, together with the local patrol team, pursued the fleeing suspects into the bush and arrested the remaining four suspects identified as Abdul Rahman Mashud, 21; Asigri Avoka, 25; Awini Stephen, 19; and Faisal Salifu, 26.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of the entire GH¢300,000 allegedly stolen during the robbery.
The Police said the suspects have admitted to their involvement and are currently in custody assisting with investigations.
The Bono East Regional Police Command has commended its officers for their alertness and professionalism, adding that it remains committed to protecting lives and property in the region.
