A Brussels Airlines flight travelling from Accra to Lomé was forced to return to Accra International Airport shortly after take-off on Monday evening following the detection of a technical fault.
In a statement, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said Flight SN278 departed Accra at 6:06 p.m. but developed a technical issue during the flight. As a precautionary measure, the flight crew decided to return to Accra, where the aircraft landed safely at 6:18 p.m.
The GCAA commended the flight crew for adhering to established aviation safety protocols, stressing that the safety of passengers and crew remains the highest priority.
According to the Authority, the technical fault that necessitated the aircraft’s return is currently under investigation by Brussels Airlines under the supervision of the GCAA, in line with established aviation safety procedures.
Following the incident, Brussels Airlines cancelled Flight SN278. The airline is providing the necessary assistance to affected passengers in accordance with the Ghana Civil Aviation (Economic) Directives, 2019 Part 2 on Consumer Protection.
The GCAA further assured the travelling public that Ghana’s aviation safety and security oversight system remains robust.
