GoldBod rewards NACOC with GH¢12.65 million for landmark gold seizure

GoldBod rewards NACOC with GH¢12.65 million for landmark gold seizure
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has presented a cheque for GH¢12.65 million to the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) as a reward for the successful seizure of 17 gold bars from illicit gold traders in 2025.

The amount represents 50 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the confiscated gold bars.

Presenting the cheque, GoldBod Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, explained that under GoldBod’s reward policy, 10 percent of all proceeds from confiscated gold linked to successful operations is allocated to the informant whose credible intelligence led to the operation. He noted that, in recognition of the bravery and sacrifice of the officers involved, GoldBod’s Board of Directors approved an additional 20 percent reward for the NACOC officers who risked their lives during the operation. The remaining 20 percent was awarded to NACOC as an institution to support the deployment of personnel and operational resources.

Receiving the cheque, NACOC Director-General, Major General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, commended GoldBod for fulfilling its commitment and reaffirmed the Commission’s determination to continue working closely with the Gold Board to combat illegal gold trading.

The presentation, according to GoldBod, highlights its commitment to rewarding credible intelligence, strengthening collaboration with state security agencies, and safeguarding Ghana’s gold resources through effective enforcement.

The Gold Board also reiterated its resolve to protect the country’s mineral resources for the benefit of both present and future generations.
