The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced the installation of new state-of-the-art security screening equipment at passenger screening checkpoints in Terminals 2 and 3 of the Accra International Airport.
According to a public notice issued by GACL, the upgraded screening system is aimed at enhancing aviation security while improving the overall passenger experience.
Under the new arrangements, passengers will no longer be required to remove laptops and other large electronic devices from their cabin baggage during security checks. Travellers can also keep their shoes and belts on unless otherwise directed during security profiling.
Additionally, liquids, aerosols and gels (LAGs) can remain in passengers’ hand luggage during screening, although the existing restriction prohibiting containers exceeding 100 millilitres remains in force.
The airport operator also announced the introduction of an Automatic Tray Return System to speed up the screening process by quickly returning trays to passengers for repacking of their belongings.
GACL noted that the migration to the new screening system will be implemented progressively and alongside existing procedures and equipment. The company has therefore appealed to passengers and stakeholders to cooperate as operations with the new equipment commence in the coming days.
