Overcoming hopelessness: Rev. Maxwell buddie urges students to look beyond poverty

Overcoming hopelessness: Rev. Maxwell buddie urges students to look beyond poverty
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Poverty remains one of the greatest obstacles to education, often casting a dark shadow over students’ academic journeys and leaving many feeling hopeless about their future. However, Reverend Maxwell Buddie believes that despair only takes hold when individuals convince themselves that there are no alternatives to success.

Speaking on Nyansapo Fie on Plan B FM with host Akosua Gyamfua, Rev. Buddie highlighted the psychological and academic impact of financial hardship on young learners. According to him, poverty often creates a cycle of deprivation that disrupts concentration, erodes self-confidence, and makes the future appear uncertain and unattainable.

“Poverty acts as a major catalyst for hopelessness,” he said. “When students are constantly struggling to meet their basic needs, it creates a pattern of deficiency that places a heavy burden on their learning and personal development.”

While acknowledging the harsh realities of poverty, Rev. Buddie stressed that hopelessness is a mindset that can be challenged and overcome. He explained that despair becomes permanent only when people believe they have exhausted all their options.

He therefore encouraged students and young people facing financial difficulties to adopt a resilient mindset, remain hopeful, and continually search for opportunities that can change their circumstances.

“The hopelessness can only be accepted when you think there is no Plan B,” he stated, urging listeners not to allow their present economic challenges to define their future potential.

Rev. Buddie’s message served as a powerful reminder that although poverty may present significant challenges, resilience, determination, and a willingness to explore alternative paths can help individuals rise above adversity and pursue their aspirations.
