Tema pupils engage in civic education dialogue on safe and responsible internet use

Tema pupils engage in civic education dialogue on safe and responsible internet use
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Pupils from Tema Parents’ Association School and Salvation Army Basic School, both in Tema, have taken part in an educational discussion on the responsible use of the internet and effective management of screen time.

The engagement, facilitated by the Municipal Director of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), Tema Region, Fidel Bortey, focused on helping young learners understand how to use digital platforms productively while avoiding online risks.

The discussion took place on Plan B FM’s Nyansapo Fie, hosted by Akosua Gyamfua, where the pupils openly shared their experiences with the internet. Many of them noted that they use it for academic research, entertainment, learning new skills, and staying updated on current global events.

Mr. Bortey encouraged the pupils to be diligent and intentional in their online activities, stressing the importance of using the internet wisely. He further advised them to report any cases of cyberbullying, monitoring, or online attacks to the appropriate authorities, particularly the Cyber Crime Unit, for swift action.

Teachers accompanying the pupils also contributed to the discussion, sharing their observations and advising the students on the potential dangers of improper internet use, including exposure to harmful content and distractions that can affect academic performance.

The session formed part of broader efforts by the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) to promote digital responsibility and civic awareness among schoolchildren.
