The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of a University of Cape Coast (UCC) student whose body was reportedly found at a beach in the Central Region.

In a statement issued on June 14, 2026, the Ministry of Education identified the deceased as Innocentia Avinu, a Level 200 student of the University of Cape Coast.

The Ministry said it received the news of the student’s death with profound sadness and extended its condolences to her family, friends, and the entire university community.

Following the tragic incident, the Education Minister has directed the authorities of the University of Cape Coast to work closely with the Ghana Police Service to conduct a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

The Ministry stressed the need for a thorough probe to establish the facts and ensure accountability where necessary.

It also appealed to the public to allow investigators to carry out their work without interference as efforts continue to unravel the circumstances leading to the student’s death.

The statement was signed by Hashmin Mohammed, Press Secretary to the Minister for Education.
