Police halt reconstruction of demolished building at Sakumono

Police halt reconstruction of demolished building at Sakumono

Police officers from the Sakumono District Command have halted the reconstruction of a building at Sakumono Golf City in the Greater Accra Region that had earlier been demolished during an enforcement exercise.

The structure was among several buildings pulled down during a demolition operation led by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, over allegations that the properties were obstructing access roads and affecting lawful occupants in the area.

However, months after the demolition, the owner of the property reportedly returned to the site and began reconstructing the building.

Acting on intelligence, police moved to the location and ordered workers to suspend all construction activities immediately.

Following the intervention, workers reportedly contacted the owner, who later arrived at the scene and questioned police over the decision to halt the construction.

The owner is said to have expressed anger over the development and accused the officers of being linked to the earlier demolition exercise.

Some residents have since called on the Regional Minister to revisit the site and ensure that the structure is pulled down again if it is found to violate planning regulations.

Police are yet to publicly comment on the incident, while the legality of the reconstruction remains under investigation.
