Bank of Ghana suspends planned 0.75% wallet-to-bank transfer fee pending further consultation

Bank of Ghana suspends planned 0.75% wallet-to-bank transfer fee pending further consultation
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Bank of Ghana has directed Mobile Money Fintech Limited (MMFL) to suspend its planned 0.75% fee on direct wallet-to-bank transfers, which was initially set to take effect on 1 June 2026.

According to the central bank, the decision is aimed at allowing further consultations with stakeholders in the mobile financial services ecosystem before any implementation of new charges.

The proposed fee has therefore been put on hold indefinitely as regulators review its impact on consumers and the broader financial system.

The Bank of Ghana emphasized that any adjustments to mobile money charges must be fair, transparent, and designed to protect users while maintaining stability in the financial sector.

Further updates are expected after the consultation process is completed.

Short Version (Sharp Summary / Social Media Cut)

Bank of Ghana has suspended MMFL’s planned 0.75% wallet-to-bank transfer fee, originally set for 1 June 2026. The move allows further stakeholder consultations, with the regulator stressing consumer protection and fairness in mobile money charges.
