Security personnel drug abuse concerns spark public outrage on Plan B FM

Young Police Officer Mysteriously Dies At ‘Counter Back’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Listeners of Plan B FM on Monday, May 26, 2025, expressed concern over what they described as the increasing rate of drug and substance abuse among some security personnel in the country, particularly within the military and police services.

During discussions on the station’s morning show, Nkosuo Nsem,  host Kofi Sekyi reacted with surprise as several listeners shared experiences involving alleged misconduct by some officers.

The discussion follows reports of a recent mass disqualification exercise during a National Security recruitment medical screening over failed drug tests and mental health concerns.

One listener recounted an encounter with a security officer who boarded his taxi allegedly smelling of alcohol and marijuana. The caller said he was shocked that a law enforcement officer could engage in such conduct and urged authorities to investigate and clamp down on indiscipline within the security services.

Another listener also claimed to have witnessed a young military officer openly smoking marijuana in public before later spotting him at a brothel allegedly seeking the services of sex workers.

Many callers described the situation as worrying and called on the appropriate authorities to strengthen disciplinary measures and uphold professionalism within the security agencies.

The issue has since sparked wider public debate about discipline, ethics, and mental health within Ghana’s security institutions.
