Sam Anoon slams minority over ‘dumsor’ petition to Mahama

We cannot honor a coup plotter’ — Anoon backs Kotoka Airport rename

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team in the Tema Central Constituency, Sam Anoon, has criticized the Minority Caucus in Parliament over its petition to President John Dramani Mahama concerning the recent power outages, popularly known as dumsor.

Speaking on Plan B FM’s Nkosuo Nsem hosted by Kofi Sekyi, Mr. Anoon described the Minority’s action as unnecessary and politically motivated, insisting the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) lacks the moral authority to lecture the current government on power challenges.

According to him, the previous NPP administration failed to significantly improve Ghana’s power generation capacity during its tenure and therefore cannot now position itself as a solution provider.

“They are being disingenuous. The issue is already being addressed, if not solved, so there is no need for such a petition,” he stated.

Mr. Anoon further urged the Minority to support government efforts rather than create what he called “needless diversions” aimed at scoring political points.

His comments follow a petition by the Minority Caucus addressed to President Mahama on May 13, 2026, calling for urgent intervention in several sectors, including the country’s energy challenges, cocoa pricing concerns, environmental governance, and food distribution problems in Senior High Schools.

The Minority expressed concern over the return of persistent power outages, warning that businesses and industries continue to suffer financial losses due to unstable electricity supply, gas shortages, and transmission failures.

However, Mr. Anoon maintains that government is already taking steps to stabilize the energy sector and restore confidence in the system.
