The annual Homowo festival noise ban has once again stirred debate in Accra, with churches, businesses, and residents adjusting activities to comply with traditional directives observed during the festive period.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s Ebaanosen with host Ohene Kinnah, cultural commentator Mr. Richard Anning stressed the need for strict adherence to the guidelines associated with the ban.
According to him, residents must respect the customs surrounding Homowo to avoid confrontations with traditional authorities and enforcement teams expected to monitor compliance across the capital throughout the month.
The restrictions, which limit drumming, loud music, and other forms of noise-making, have affected some churches and businesses, with a number expected to scale down operations temporarily.
Despite concerns from sections of the public over the impact on economic and religious activities, several contributors on the programme defended the exercise, insisting that preserving tradition and cultural heritage should remain a priority.
Authorities and traditional leaders are expected to intensify public education and enforcement as the festival period progresses.
