Reverend Benjamin Boateng raises concern over emotional neglect in Churches

Gossip in churches can hinder growth — Rev. Boateng warns

Reverend Benjamin Boateng has called on church leaders to prioritize compassion, confidentiality, and family responsibility within ministry.

Speaking on Plan B FM’s Nyansapo Fie hosted by Akosua Gyamfua, the Reverend warned that some churches are becoming emotionally cold spaces where members are valued only for their involvement in church activities.

He stressed that spiritual leadership should never become a hiding place for abuse, neglect, or unhealthy behaviour.

“As church leaders, we must conduct background checks on members and never overlook abuse crises or emotional coldness,” he stated.

Reverend Boateng also expressed concern about pastors who devote excessive time to church work at the expense of their own families.

“Some pastors neglect their own families for church work. It is a major issue,” he admitted.

He further criticized the inability of some clergy to handle sensitive information responsibly, saying gossip and the misuse of confidential matters can severely affect people emotionally and mentally.

“When personal details are weaponized, people break,” he said.

The Reverend concluded by urging church leaders to lead with empathy, maturity, and accountability to help create healthier faith communities.
