The Ghana Education Service has officially released the 2026/2027 academic calendar for basic schools across the country, outlining reopening dates, vacations, mid-term breaks, and the schedule for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
According to a statement signed by Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the academic calendar applies to all Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools nationwide.
Per the schedule, the first term will commence on September 8, 2026, and end on December 17, 2026, spanning 15 weeks. A two-day mid-term break will be observed on November 5 and 6, while vacation begins from December 18, 2026, to January 4, 2027.
The second term is scheduled to run from January 5 to March 25, 2027, lasting 12 weeks, with students expected to resume for the third term on April 20, 2027, after the vacation period ending on April 19, 2027.
The third and final term of the academic year will begin on April 20 and end on July 22, 2027, marking the close of the academic year.
GES also announced that the 2027 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will be conducted from Wednesday, May 5 to Wednesday, May 12, 2027.
Management of GES urged heads of schools, teachers, parents, guardians, and all stakeholders to take note of the approved dates and make adequate preparations to ensure a smooth and effective academic year.
The statement further reminded schools to observe all public holidays accordingly, adding that a two-day mid-term break will be observed in each term.
