The government has officially declared Friday, May 1, 2026, as a statutory public holiday in observance of Workers Day, also known as May Day.
In a statement issued on April 27, the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, urged the general public to observe the day accordingly across the country.
Workers Day is traditionally set aside to honour the contributions and sacrifices of workers, as well as to reflect on labour rights and national development.
The announcement confirms that all sectors are expected to recognize the holiday, giving workers the opportunity to commemorate the occasion.
