John Abdulai Jinapor has mentioned that Ghana is moving into the final phase of restoring full power at the Akosombo Dam, with four generating units left to bring back online.
“With two units now fully synchronised, our focus has shifted to the remaining four,” he said during the Government Accountability Series, pointing to steady progress after recent breakthroughs.
He highlighted the role of a newly deployed solution, describing it as a turning point in the recovery effort.
“The innovative bypass technology we introduced during the crisis has proven effective,” Jinapor stated. “It gives us a clear roadmap for the total restoration of the plant.”
According to the Minister, work on the next phase is already underway, with one unit nearing completion.
“The third unit is currently in its final stages of testing,” he said, expressing confidence that it will soon be added to the grid.
Jinapor maintained that the outlook remains positive, with expectations that the facility will return to its full capacity in the near term.
“We are optimistic that the full 1,000 megawatt capacity will be restored shortly,” he noted. “That will bring an end to the emergency load management and return the country to a stable and reliable power supply.”
