A fisherman believed to be in his early 50s has tragically lost his life at Kotoso in the Kwahu East District of Eastern Region after drowning in the Afram River while trying to retrieve his canoe.
According to an eyewitness who spoke to Agoo FM News’ Emmanuel Agyenfrah, the deceased, identified as Pafio Avbobeka, had gone fishing with his brother on Monday night.
During the trip, a heavy storm forced them to suspend their activities and take shelter along the river bank.
While resting, they realized their canoe had been swept away by strong winds.
In an attempt to retrieve it, Pafio reportedly jumped into the river but did not resurface.
The following morning, the canoe was found at the far end of the river, but Pafio remained missing.
His body was recovered later from the river at about 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
