GPL: Frank Duku delivers as Hearts of Oak stay in title race

GPL: Frank Duku delivers as Hearts of Oak stay in title race
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Accra Hearts of Oak kept their Ghana Premier League title ambitions alive with a tense 1-0 victory over Young Apostles FC at the Accra Sports Stadium, ending a frustrating five-game winless run.

In a game defined by resilience and fine margins, the Phobians had to weather an early scare when Claude Bortey’s header nearly handed the visitors a shock lead, only for Kelvin Osei-Asibey to produce a crucial goal-line clearance.

Hearts gradually grew into the contest and found their moment just before halftime. Frank Abora Duku capped off a slick move, finishing calmly after a long distribution from Solomon Agbasi was brought under control and teed up by Mawuli Wayo.

The goal not only secured all three points but also marked a personal high for Duku, who has now scored in consecutive matches for the first time since his move from Vision FC.

The closing stages, however, were overshadowed by concern as Agbasi suffered a concussion following a late save to deny an Abubakar effort. The goalkeeper was stretchered off and taken away by ambulance, with head coach Didi Dramani later confirming he is in stable condition.

The win lifts Hearts to third on 46 points, five behind leaders Bibiani Gold Stars, firmly reigniting their title push. For Young Apostles, the defeat deepens relegation fears as they drop to 16th with 33 points.

Hearts may have found their spark again—but the focus now shifts to momentum and the fitness of a key figure between the posts.
