Sports Ministry debunks claims over Minister’s Germany trip

2026 WCQ: Sports Minister remains tight-lipped despite President’s call for transparency in Black Stars budget
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has dismissed claims circulating on social media that the Sports Minister sponsored individuals with business class tickets to Germany for the Black Stars’ international friendly matches.

In a statement dated March 29, 2026, the Ministry described the allegations as “false and without any basis,” clarifying that the individuals seen in a viral video are not known to the Minister.

According to the statement, the Minister only had a brief, casual interaction with the individuals at the airport departure tunnel while boarding his flight—an encounter the Ministry says is typical for public officials.

The Ministry further stressed that the Minister travelled alone on an official assignment to engage the Black Stars team and technical staff ahead of their friendly matches. It added that no officials from the Ministry or any delegation accompanied him on the trip.

It also firmly denied any financial involvement, stating that no public funds or corporate sponsorships were used to support fan travel or participation for the matches.

Head of PR and Communications, Bagbara Tanko, who signed the statement, urged the public to disregard what he described as misleading narratives.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the prudent use of public resources.
