Otto Addo under fire as Ghana’s struggles spark World Cup fears

Otto Addo under fire as Ghana’s struggles spark World Cup fears
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Black Stars have endured a difficult run, suffering defeats to Japan (2-0) and South Korea (1-0) before being heavily beaten 5-1 by Austria in their latest outing.

Those results are particularly concerning given that all three opponents are World Cup-bound nations, offering a clear indication of the level Ghana will face at the tournament.

The performances have exposed recurring issues, including defensive lapses, lack of cohesion and an inability to compete consistently against high-level opposition.

Match Report: Austria humiliate Ghana 5-1 in Vienna

Ghana will face Panama, Croatia and England in the group stage, and the recent run has intensified doubts about the team’s competitiveness.

The technical bench was strengthened ahead of this window with the additions of Desmond Ofei, Alain Ravera and Kim Lars Bjorkegren as assistants, alongside psychologist Kris Perquy and performance analyst Jose Daniel Martinez Alonso. Despite these changes, performances have fallen short of expectations.

Addo guided Ghana to qualification for the World Cup, but questions remain about his ability to take the team forward against elite opposition.

Attention now turns to the friendly against Germany on Monday, March 30, 2026. Another heavy defeat could intensify scrutiny on the coach, while a positive response may help restore some confidence ahead of the tournament.
