Two scrap dealers, 22-year-oldNaporo Gbuloand 23-year-oldAlhassan Wumbei, were lynched by a mob in the Ntensere community of the Atwima Nwabiagya North District after being accused of attempting to kidnap a 2-year-and-nine-month-old girl,Agatha Awuni.

The incident occurred on Sunday, March 15, 2026, when the victims reportedly visited the community to purchase scraps.

According to reports, the child, who was running an errand with her 9-year-old sister,Blessing Awuni, was allegedly concealed in a sack by the scrap dealers. The older sister raised an alarm, prompting residents to rush to the scene, apprehend the men, and mete out vigilante justice.

During the chaos, the mob also set fire to the scrap dealers’ tricycle, which was being used to transport scrap materials. One of the victims reportedly ran to a local scrap dealing company for safety but was captured and lynched.

Speaking about the incident, Blessing Awuni recounted:“Our mother sent us to deliver something to someone. We encountered the two scrap dealers. They spoke to us, but we did not understand the language. We fell, and they took my sister and hid her in a sack. I ran shouting, and people gathered around and beat them.”

The mother of the child,Florence Ayariga, confirmed that her daughter has been taken to the hospital for medical assessment and is reported to be fine.

Local Assembly Member,Mr Godfred Amoah, condemned the mob action, stressing that the victims should have been handed over to law enforcement authorities.

He also confirmed that the incident has been reported to the police for investigation to determine the cause of the lynching and identify those involved.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at theKomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH)morgue for preservation and autopsy.

This is not the first lynching involving scrap dealers in Ntensere; last year, two scrap dealers were killed in separate incidents for allegedly stealing motorcycles. Despite community education and the provision of police contacts, such vigilantism continues.

Alhassan Abdulai Dagara, Chairman of theAkwatialine Scrap Dealers Association, condemned the lynching and called for a thorough investigation, citing concerns for the safety of their members.

Meanwhile,Abubakari Aminu Champang, Youth Chairman of theDagbamba Community, appealed to PresidentJohn Mahama, the Interior Minister, and the Inspector General of Police to intervene and ensure justice for the victims.

The recent incident has heightened fears among scrap dealers in the region, who are increasingly concerned about stereotyping and violence directed at their members.
