Thomas Ayertey of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to refrain from criticising President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC’s 24-hour economy policy, arguing that his own record in government undermines his credibility.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s EBAANOSEN programme, hosted by Ohene Kinnah, Mr Ayertey questioned Dr Bawumia’s performance during the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, citing what he described as unfulfilled promises.
He mentioned promises relating to the construction of a harbour or port, the provision of a public toilet for residents of Nima, the One Village, One Dam initiative and the One District, One Factory policy.
Mr Ayertey also challenged the NPP’s claim to exclusive credit for the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme, arguing that the provision of education is a constitutional responsibility of the government.
He further defended the Mahama administration’s record, maintaining that the NDC had been in office for only two years and that it was too early to conclude that President Mahama would fail to deliver on his campaign promises.
According to him, the government should be given sufficient time to implement its policies, including the proposed 24-hour economy, before its performance is judged.
