Veteran journalist and former minister Kojo Yankah has expressed disappointment over reports that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is seeking permanent residence in the United States.
Yankah said he has known Ofori-Atta for decades and had expected him to remain in Ghana.
“The confirmation of news reports indicating former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is seeking permanent residence in the USA is unfortunate as well as disappointing,” he said in a post shared on social media.
Yankah described Ofori-Atta as a long-standing acquaintance whose academic and professional background is well known.
“Some of us have known Ken since the 1980s, a pleasant and brilliant product of Achimota School, Columbia University and Yale University School of Management,” he stated.
He also recalled their professional interaction during the expansion of Databank Group into Liberia.
According to Yankah, Ofori-Atta’s familiarity with Ghana’s legal system should encourage him to address any issues in the country.
“Ken is deeply familiar with the legal system in Ghana, and I believe that an honest Bible-quoting Christian like him would have the courage of his convictions to face all odds,” he said.
Yankah concluded his remarks with a direct appeal.
“Come home, Ken. This is where you belong,” he said
